Practising Cable Ski In Torrevieja

Cable ski uses the same principal as conventional water skiing but without the boat. Skiers hold onto a cable with a wide, comfortable handle that is attached to the main overhead pulley system. Once kitted up, you are pulled off a sloping platform into the water. When you’ve got the hang of skiing, you can enjoy skipping along the waves performing turns and jumps. This can be done using standard water skis, a mono ski or a wake-board. All skiers are under the supervision of fully trained instructors.

La Bocana also offer a selection of other water sports. These include kayaking, stand up paddle and the exciting sport of coasteering. There is a comfortable snack bar with lovely terrace seating. Here you can watch all the action and enjoy an ice cold drink or meal. La Bocana Cable Ski in Torrevieja is open daily from 11.30-19.00 Mon to Fri and 10.00-20.00 Sat & Sun.

Surfing in Torrevieja is great fun and can be enjoyed by surfers of all experience levels.

Let’s talk about surfing in Torrevieja. Although nowhere near competition standard, the waves here attract a good following of young locals. You really don’t have to go far to find a good spot to surf. Right in front of the popular beachfront promenade is where most of the surfing in Torrevieja is done. With autumn and winter being the best times for surfing, holiday crowds and surfers rarely clash. The locals who do try a bit of surfing here in the spring and summer months tend to surf the back breakers. They are also generally respectful and cautious when the sea gets busy.

Good Spots for Surfing In Torrevieja

The promenade location is very handy for holidaymakers who want to surf and are staying in the city. The waves are gentle enough for novices. The sea bed, aside from a few small rocks is predominantly sandy. For bigger and longer waves, by far the best surfing in Torrevieja is found on the outskirts of the city. Where it borders the neighbouring town of La Mata is a particularly good spot. The surfing conditions in La Mata do not vary much from season to season. The waves here are pretty inconsistent but when they’re at their best they come in long rolling sets that break on a sandbar. The beach is very long. This enables surfers to choose a spot with less swimmers in the water. If it does look unsafe the lifeguards will let you know.

Other Spots For Surfing In Torrevieja

Other decent surfing spots close to Torrevieja include Punta Prima and La Zenia. These areas are around a 10 minute drive in neighbouring Orihuela Costa. Santa Pola also has decent surfing conditions. It is popular for wind and kite surfing too. There are a number of surf shops and schools in Torrevieja. This includes the other towns I’ve mentioned where surfing equipment can be hired and lessons taken.

Good Spots For Snorkelling In Torrevieja

Snorkelling in Torrevieja can be enjoyed right in front of the main beach promenade (Paseo Juan Aparicio) where there are 2 man made bays. The first snorkelling route is around the bay opposite St. Jeremi’s Irish pub where the depth is between 1 metre – 6 metres. The second has similar depths and is located in the bay in front of Ramon Servant ice cream parlour. Another great spot is the coves and rocks in the Punta Prima area which borders Torrevieja. There are rocky shelves all along the coastline in front of the Sunrise Beach Bars to explore. Another snorkelling route is in the small coves known as Cala Piteras. These are right in front of the popular Nautilus Restaurant. Again, the depth here reaches about 6 metres.

Just after Los Locos Beach, if you are heading towards the town of La Mata there are 3 popular snorkelling routes quite close together. The first one you come to is known as Cala de los Trabajos. This is about 200 metres behind Tropic 222 Restaurant. Here the route goes a bit further from shore to about 7 metres. A few coves along is Cala de la Higuera where the route hugs the shoreline in a gentle loop. The next cove is Cala de la Zorra where the route takes you out to about 6 metres. None of these routes venture too far from shore.
